Creating Identity on the Net with Facebook Connect

Are the Friendster and MySpace days over? Networking has gone beyond mere connectivity; it has ventured into making online presence as you go around the Web. With Facebook Connect, we not only share applications with our friends and allow third party developers to enrich Facebook’s networking output, we also carry along our identity and make a presence anywhere we go on the Net.

Facebook Connect has the following features added that one may not find in any other networking applications:

Trusted Authentication

Users can connect with any web site they want to partner with by using an authentication method. It varies whether the developer integrated the authentication during signup or anywhere else, but the user will be able to authenticate and connect with any partner web site.

Real Identity

Facebookers use their real identities online. And wherever they go on the Net, they carry along their profile information, friends, groups, photos, events, updates, etc.

Friends Access

Besides the fact that users can bring along their friends’ identities anywhere around the Web, Facebook Connect also allows developers to enhance applications for social encounters on their web sites. It also tells the user who among his friends were already able to set up accounts for Facebook.

Dynamic Privacy

The Facebook users will be able to make known their identities anywhere around the Net. They can be sure that these information are up-to-date and protected by the privacy settings.

If Hansel and Gretel were able to find their way home through trail markers, Facebook Connect would make us a visible character online, one that’s not lost but ever present and making a mark.

Top Ten Outsourcing Problems (and their Solutions)

Since outsourcing began, there has been a lot trending and changes in its scope and capacity to expand; however, the concerns are left as is. We are now to discuss on the following paragraphs these concerns and how they are nipped in the bud:

Half-baked preparation-One thing to keep in mind is that you should know what services you would need to outsource and compare the strengths and weaknesses that your company and the manufacturing outfit have and if they complement.

Procrastination-Know the right time to outsource, especially on which part of the manufacturing process would you need the outsourcing support.

Lack of Planning-Planning involves the turn-around time and the time frame for negotiation to take place. This is more often ignored by the companies.

Too High Expectations-This one’s to say that you have to have the right mind-set that these companies have limitations too.

Wrong Vendor Choice-Try to compare three manufacturing companies as regards pricing before you get to choose the right one. A 10% to 20% difference is normal, but when it’s 50%, you must consider a hoax.

Ignoring the Cultural Barrier-You need to review the organizational chart of the company you are going to outsource with and who are the decision makers as well as the type of decisions they have come to.

Not-too-specific Specifications-This is just to make sure that product specifications should be accurate and that they should be communicated properly too.

Constant Changing of Work Scope-By being clear on the importance of each process involved in the scope of work and its effects on the output, the manufacturing company would be able to fix its system accordingly.

Substandard Quality Systems-It should be ensured that the receiving company has quality systems to be able to produce high-quality products.

Ineffective Communication-It pays to ensure that every instruction is understood by the receiving company completely. Sometimes it entails the use of media aids for the right information to go through communication barriers.

New Mozilla Firefox “Bares” Its All

Internet Explorer has one enemy in the wired world. I’m talking about the Firefox 3.0.Its record-breaking number of requests after last Tuesday night’s launch has landed it in Guinness World Records and shut down the servers for an hour.

This new Firefox 3.0 fairs well in three aspects: It will be easier to handle and safer, emphasizing on online financing procedures; the installation of its company networks are well managed. For brainiacs who are visually impaired, the Firefox version can be a friendlier tool with its “zoom out, zoom in” function for enlarging or reducing the text and graphics on the browser. The sidebars have become faster to load too, and its back button was made large since it is more often used than the forward button.

Technocrats believe that it’s Firefox’s high concentration of its functions in a network of big companies that would raise its market share. Although IE has been leading the market, Firefox comes in second and has been gaining a good reputation from its users.

How Do You Remember the Great Wise Bill?

We have a most talked-about happenstance in the computer world history. This extends to the whole globe in reality. Bill Gates has resigned his post as the CEO and chairman of his long-held company Microsoft.

Speculations have flooded the IT arena about Gates’s move and what remains of the IT giant Microsoft. Steve Ballmer the new CEO they say doesn’t have what it takes to drive the company to its maximum productivity. There have been comments from Gates’s detractors about his being remembered as a philanthropist rather than a technology innovator or worse, a robber-baron monopolist.

While others think of him as following Andrew Carnegie’s footsteps, Gates on the other hand says that he is taking on the humanitarian principle of Carnegie. According to Carnegie, as one knows how to earn money so does one know how to spend it. Gates is referring to the millions that he gave away for his foundation.

Would it matter how Gates would be remembered in history? To the world, yes, but to him, he appears to be a private citizen with tons of money spending it in a way that would make him gratified for having amassed great wealth. Whether he committed the gravest among errors of forcing Windows programs to be used in all computers or not, it would be worth emulating to see him spending that wealth in humanitarian work and implementing ways to make sure this aid is reaching the right recipients by hands-on effort. Perhaps it’s better to look beyond the imperfections of human nature and give credit instead to how it is rectified.
