Gadgets To Look Forward To In 2008

If 2007 was all about introducing new ideas and technologies (i.e., Apple iPhone and Multi-Touch technology, ASUS Eee PC, Google's Android OS concept,), this year we will most likely see an influx of a lot of upgrades. Anything new? Yes, there may be a few developments and innovations but it looks like invention might be put aside at least for the first half of 2008. However, this does not mean that we do not have a lot to look forward to. Although many gadgets and gizmos that we are salivating for are slated for years to come, we do have a few trinkets to look forward to. Here are a few of them:
The Google Phone
It looks like this is going to be one of the biggest years for Google (again). With the introduction of their Android OS, we might as well expect to see their mobile phones out in the market soon. Of course, there is no real evidence suggesting that they will manufacture their own units but tying up their Android OS with a bunch of existing manufacturers (such as HTC in Taiwan) will ultimately make those phones instant Google-made babies. More information here.
The Apple iPhone 2.0
Yes, we have probably heard too much of the phone but we will definitely not hear the end of it. Touted as Time's Invention of the Year (which is largely contested), we can be assured of one thing: Apple's marketing team is going to be in full force (again) and they will succeed in making the 2nd generation iPhones known if not best-selling. Due out for release in Asia by 2008, new versions of the iPhone are expected to be buffed up with 3G but there is no talk of any other features. We can only hope for an exchangeable battery, better camera, and even better OS features in the next version. Asian users will most likely stay safe with Nokia products but if Apple plays their cards right, they just might win yet another giant market. More iPhone information here.
ASUS Eee PC 2nd Gen
Probably the cheapest laptop in the world, ASUS has made clear that their Eee line of computing devices have not been placed in the background amidst all the new technologies out there. Small, efficient, and quite powerful for the mobile user, the current ASUS Eee sports up to 4 Gigs of flash-based disk space and its Linux Xandros OS can be switched with installs of licensed software like Windows and even Mac Tiger. However, it's not what it can do that is shocking. It's the amount of space it takes up. It's about half the size of a 15 inch laptop and has a 7-inch display. It's not pocketable but its WIFI ready and it's selling like hotcakes. The next wave of supposed 8 Gigabyte models (hopefully with a 10-inch screen this time?) is expected to be released in April of 2008. If they can keep the price levels where they are now, laptop manufacturers are sure to follow suit.
