Poddcorp Winners
Poddcorp has always had a mix of incredibly talented people. So it’s no wonder when we got news that 2 of our Podd team leads received awards for their works; we just couldn’t keep it to ourselves, we knew we had to share it with you guys.
Team Lead Antoliano “JR” Lao won 3rd and 6th prize for the Sinulog Photo Contest and Art Director Leo Guevara received a Plaque of Recognition for Most Notable in Graphic Design from the Fine Arts Department of the University of San Carlos.
PODD: First question goes to JR. How did you get into photography?
JR: I got my first camera when I was 7 years old, it was a disposable Kodak 35mm given to me by my aunt.
But it was only 2 years ago when I got my first digital P&S - a Canon A410; I have enlivened my passion for photography since then.
PODD: How about you Leo, did you always want to be a graphic artist?
Nope. I've always wanted a profession dealing with animals. There was a time that I even wanted to work in Manila Zoo (serious), think that’s the initial reason why I took Zoology as my first course.
And just to clarify things my area of specialty is graphic design.
People always get confused with the difference bet graphic artists and graphic designer. The simplest way to explain this is that Graphic arts has many specialized areas like illustration, different kinds of printing, photography, graphic design, layout, etc... And I specialize in graphic design: the art of organizing graphic elements in a page. I’m also into digital imaging, another branch (extended) of the graphic arts.
PODD: [Laughs] PODD’s really lucky that you decided to move to Cebu and take up Fine arts.
JR: The fact that I could snap memories with my cam is what inspires me most. I can say that a camera is man's greatest gift for mankind, because it's the only gadget that allows you to freeze time.
Leo: Great design work like D.Carson, Milton Glaser, Stefan Sagmeister. And everything else that inspires these great masters.PODD: JR, how did you feel when you got the award?
JR: Well I was amazed. I've heard that there were many foreign & local photographers who participated at that time (coz of the recently concluded ASEAN Summit), and these guys are really top notch on this field. I consider it as a matter of luck that I bagged 2 awards from the entries I’ve submitted.
PODD: To Leo, what advise would you give to novice designers?Stop. Look. Design! Design!! DESIGN!!!
PODD: Ok so here’s an oddball question for both of you, If you could have super powers what would it be?
JR: Hmmm..A power equivalent to GOKOU and VEGETA fusion
Leo: I always wanted to be Spiderman!!! I'll need to relocate to Makati though.
Also fly and xray vision… (i wonder why???)
