Are GIF Banners Dead?
Could it be? Are GIF banners dead?
The World Wide Web is a universe where the new and cool is constantly tested against the old and outdated. And while we’re still seeing GIF banners; they are becoming extinct as more flexible, eye-catching and vibrant banners inhibit in its place. I think we may be seeing the process of natural selection at work online. GIF banner advertising are slowly being replaced by more flexible formats like Java, Flash and streaming media.
And it has to be that way. Banners and click-thrus are big businesses. Almost three years ago, animated GIF banners began to replace the static GIF. Now rich media is dominating.
Why?
Animation is eye-catching
Animation allowed for a more detailed message (added frames allowed for more information in the same space)
Animation simply produce better Click-thu rates
But to answer the question: Are GIF Banners dead? No. You can still see plenty of them around however they are fast becoming obsolete.

Creative VS Apple: Despute over patent
Creative Technology, makers of the number two music player in the market, the Creative Zen, has asked the US International Trade Commission (ITC) to investigate claims that Apple's iPod infringes one of its patents.
Creative applied for the patent in 2001 but was only awarded in August 2005, which covers navigation by menus and organization of music on a portable music player. Since then Creative has been threatening to sue Apple over its ipod.
According to the ITC filing, "Creative is seeking an exclusion order and a cease-and-desist order against Apple Computer Inc,"
"The orders would prohibit Apple Computer Inc from engaging in sales, marketing, importation or sale after importation into the US, or other infringing activities in the US with regard to the infringing iPod and iPod Nano products."

Pandora: Discover Music
Pandora is created by The Music Genome Project, “a group of musicians and music-loving technologists came together with the idea of creating the most comprehensive analysis of music ever”. Ok so that’s what they say.
In a span of 5 years, they’ve carefully listened to over thousands of artists ranging from the popular to the obscure and analyzed and categorized each one.
I decided to give it a try and searched for “Cantoma” a chillout group specializing in flamenco style lounge music… and they made really great suggestions on similar acts or groups. Definitely a 2 thumbs up… plus a toe… maybe!
